Student Profile of The Month: Meet Alisha

Talented Year 12 musician Alisha has been at ACG School Jakarta for five years. She plays volleyball, loves science and is considering studying Environmental Engineering at university. Alisha was involved in the school’s very first recital – and has taken part in every one since.

What’s your favourite subject and why?
My favourite subject is biology. I love science in general, but I find biology most interesting because it’s a literal lesson about life (why there are living beings, how do they stay alive).

I do enjoy maths, too, because I like solving problems. In maths, you can solve many complex and challenging problems in many different ways.

Tell us about your involvement and achievements in music
At ACG School Jakarta, I was involved in the school’s very first annual recital and have joined every year since. I am also an avid member of the school’s music department.

I often help with music performances for our assemblies. I took Music for my IGCSE, and that was a challenging, but fun experience. Outside of school, I was a member of a small Youth orchestra called KITA Anak Negeri, and we performed back in August to commemorate Indonesia’s Independence Day.

What do you most love about music?
I love how complex, but also how simple music can be. You can listen to music and like it because of its beat or maybe its catchy lyrics, but you can also listen to music and be emotionally moved.

Sometimes listening to a particular piece can give you the chills or sometimes it can make you hyper and want to run wild. I also love how when you play music with other people, you can connect and have fun over songs.

What other extracurricular activities are you involved in?
I am involved in ACG’s Senior Volleyball team, and I would also like to join kick-boxing sometime in the near future.

What do you most enjoy about ACG School Jakarta?
I love the community that ACG School Jakarta has, everyone is friendly and kind to each other and my class feels like family to me.

What would you like to do when you leave school?
I’d like to continue my education and go to university. I don’t know what major I am going for yet, but I’d love to do something in the sciences. I also want to continue music because it is something that I genuinely enjoy.

What are your career aspirations?
I think people’s aspirations often change, so I am keeping my options open. Currently, I am interested in Biomechanics or Environmental Engineering.
