On Friday 16 November, ACG School Jakarta held its first annual Secondary Learning Celebration. The afternoon gave all students and parents the opportunity to interact with students and engage in conversations about learning.
Year 8 students presented their Science Fair projects. Successful Slime was a popular project, as was a look into Microbiology and an inquiry into the Properties of Light. Our budding young scientists were well spoken, and proud of their displays and hopefully inspired the Year 6 students who came to visit.
Year 11 students finished a 14-month project called the Exploratorium. Through this project, students developed a research question based on an area of personal interest. They developed research, time-management and communication skills – all necessities as they prepare for the IB Diploma Programme next year. The students spoke about their topics, the process involved and displayed their product – an individual expression of their learning.
Our Year 12 students shared their first few experiences with Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) – a core component of the IBDP. Students were very passionate as they described what they have done so far in their first semester and what they plan to do in the future.
The senior students, our Year 13s, presented their findings from the Group 4 Project. They spent the previous day and a half working collaboratively in small groups, through a variety of science experiments. They were tasked with solving the hypothetical murder of our DP Coordinator, Mr Brundage and there were many suspects.
It was wonderful to see our students interact with each other, across grade levels, in a mature, intelligent way. Plans are already underway for the next Learning Celebration a high standard has already been set.
