Learner Profile of The Month: Communicator

The aim of the IB PYP and DP Programmes is to develop internationally minded people who, recognizing their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, help to create a better and more peaceful world (International Baccalaureate Organization 2013). The Learner Profile is at the center of everything that we do at ACG School Jakarta and it is important for all community members to strive to exhibit IB Learner Profile qualities and attributes. The IB learner profile represents 10 attributes valued by IB World Schools. We believe these attributes can help us to become responsible members of our local and global communities. A real focus in our School is on the importance and value of being good communicators. We work with our students to help them become confident and creative communicators. Through a variety of classroom activities and tasks, students develop an understanding of how ideas and information can be expressed in more than one language and through a variety of modes of communication. We also emphasize how important it is to work effectively and willingly in collaboration with others.

Developing good communication skills does not just happen at school. Students can also improve their ability to communicate at home by trying some of these suggestions:
– Encourage your son / daughter to stay in touch with relatives and friends who live in other countries.
– When working on homework, encourage your son / daughter to explain his/her answer to you orally.
– Work with your son / daughter to improve his/her listening skills. Being a good listener is an important part of communicating with others.
– Utilize safe online environments to enhance written communication skills.
