Renowned educationalist and author Lance King held workshops on Courage, Resilience and Failing Well for ACG School Jakarta teachers, students and parents during a two-day visit to Jakarta.
On day one, working with students in Years 12-13 undertaking the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, he looked at exam preparation, resilience and approaches to learning (ATL).
ATL are deliberate strategies, skills and attitudes that permeate teaching and learning within the IB and support the view that education is not only what you learn but also how you learn.
That evening he held a free seminar at ACG School Jakarta for parents.
Day two saw him present on ATL to ACG School Jakarta secondary teachers.
Annie Pickering, Maths teacher and Year 12 advisor, said the course allowed teachers to share understandings, look at learning from multiple angles, allay fears and end some misconceptions around ATL.
“For myself, it particularly reinforced the need for educators to model and give multiple opportunities for students to acquire these skills, as students will take these with them throughout their secondary and tertiary education, and more importantly, their life. Acquiring ATL skills gives students the impetus to take control of their own learning and discover their particular learning requirements.”
She said the session left teachers wanting to know and understand more.
