Celebrating Kartini Day 2018

On Friday we celebrated Ibu Kartini Day. Starting off with the monthly flag raising ceremony led by the Year 10 students then followed by drama and song performances by students and parent volunteers. Throughout this week we also displayed pieces of art and writing from primary students with Women as the main theme. The secondary students also displayed their art around the school’s stairs and they also conducted interviews with teachers on Ibu Kartini’s legacy and the ever increasing effect of modern women on Indonesia.

Kartini was a prominent Indonesian national heroine from Java. She was also a pioneer in the area of education for girls and women’s rights for Indonesians. She also took an interest in mysticism and opposed polygamy, amongst other things. Her birthday is now celebrated as Kartini Day in Indonesia.
